Identi.ca Updates for 2009-12-07

  • Good morning all. Looks like another ugh day involving data migration. And here I thought I was a developer, not a DBA. #
  • Nice. I got my Amazon wishlist setup. Now any interested Santas know what to buy for me. 🙂 #
  • Lunch is in order now. Never enjoyed mucking around in SQL, especially with a crazily constructed data model. #
  • Ugh. Work with me, SQL, work with me. #
  • We’ll try again tomorrow. Got other stuff to deal with now. #

What’s Next?

The weekend turned out hectic but productive enough.  I enjoyed the company Christmas party on Saturday night.  Great venue, pretty fun, love the concept of an open bar. 😛 This morning marks the start of a hectic week, which I hope will mean my finally catching up on all my overdo communications and organizational work.  At work it looks like a lot of loose ends need tying.  And a certain client is being demanding again…  So this week will be “fun”.

Still… last week saw my catching up on many things.  Hopefully we’ll have a repeat this week, only less stressful and more productive. 🙂

  • There we go… Goodbye all you robots. I mean I love robots. But I couldn’t care less for spam. The two don’t mix well anyways. #
  • Hmm… Funny how quickly things get done if you set your mind to it. Now on to those few last straggling tasks. #
  • Nice. Looks like I’ll be using a lot more of Wireshark for debugging web applications. Ow. Delving into another app’s code to fix my app. #

Taking a Repose

You may have noticed that my blogs seem to get shorter and shorter.  As you can imagine I’m busy wrapping up things for this year.  In addition to all that, I want to spend more time writing my novels and articles.  Plus I need to catch up on my coding projects as well.  You should still expect to get your daily dose of Dorian, but in shorter form for the time being.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress with my various projects.

First Snow, Last Month

I got up this morning, and saw light snow cover on the rooftops and ground.  The sun shone and so the snow-that reminder of December and winter-disappeared as quickly as it appeared.  Today marks the first day of the month of December and the second day of the week.  Nothing of particular relevance in the grand scheme of things.  Maybe I tie too much value in a particular day or time of year.  Still as I looked at the snow, I felt I had come full circle from last year.  A year of running around, of trials, tribulations and experiences.  Feeling older… am I wiser for it?  I do feel I am colder and less accepting.

As I stared at the snow, I wondered if all my efforts in the various aspects of my life simply melt away under a harsh sun.  I wondered if I made in-roads at work, at parties and in my life.  An answer forms in my head, but not a clear resounding yes.  But neither a draining no.  Rather a confused jumble of yes and no, some gains but at what losses.

As I stared at the snow, I realized how little time I have left before Advent rushes by.  Soon Christmas and New Year’s Day will arrive.  There is so much to do and I want a new start in the new year.  Time flies and each day disappears like last night’s snow in a year’s sun.

A Weekend of Fun

Had a fun weekend.  Lots of partying, some clubbing with my man Przemek too.  Met a lot of new cool people, and I hope we stay in touch.  I want to thank Troy for organizing everything.  And it was good to see old friends again: Barbara & Nick F.,  and Rob K.  Funny how both venues’ name’s started with ‘C’.

Hmm… The Future Feels Clean

So do you like it?  The theme on the website that is.  I decided to go with a variant of light greys, royal blue-purple and amber highlights.  It does have a spartan, minimalistic feel but I like it.  I considered rebuilding the theme as an ExtJS or jQuery UI powered on.  But honestly, this works and IMHO looks pretty good.  For a theme that doesn’t use any images.  I plan on tinkering with this theme as time goes on, but I think I like this theme as a base.  As promised, I will go through this theme, clean things up and release it out in the open once I’m done.

Whats next on my list?  Well a good chunk of work, and some partying this weekend to celebrate the coming of the end of the year.  🙂

A Clean Future

The future is white?

Bob, the future has been white since the 60’s.

Autotainment, Big Ideas

The future has been white for a long time, thanks to the likes of Stanley Kubrick and the folks at Apple.  Thats why the theme I’m crafting for this website, is called “Clean Future”.  I took the “Open Sourcerer” theme by Alan Lord, and modifying it until it suits my tastes.  I’m still debating whether it will look like a glass UI or hand-drawn doodles.  Maybe I’ll go all out and create a full AJAX powered UI.  We’ll see.  I’m sure it will remain white and light grey.  And I’ll take it as far as I feel it makes sense to do so.  So if anyone has any suggestions feel free to leave them in the comments below.  I’ll make the modified theme available once I finish working on it.

As the Year Wraps Up

Less than 37 days or so remain in this year, and so I almost want to look back at this year in nostalgia.  A lot of personal growth happened, even if my plans only now are starting to get realized.  I discovered the fullness of what it means to be human: love, life, hate, death, joy, sorrow.  A million different feelings and it has been quite a ride.  I feel  better equipped to handle whatever the future brings.   And I want to thank all those who I met, got to know and taught me many life lessons.  Some were joyful, others painful.  Still I can not say I am not thankful.  In retrospect, I would of done things differently.  But I would not trade those memories and lessons, for anything.

Life happens.  Life is messy.  Thats the beauty of it.

As for my projects, and my obsession with completing them…  Well I am at a stage that I wished I was at back in February.  So I feel a little anxious of how long things take.  But I’m hoping that I can wrap up this year in this month and in a bit, with some tangible achievements.

Anyways… back to work… there is so much yet to be done.
